John20;30Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are NOT WRITTEN in this BOOK.
John21;25But there are also MANY other things which Jesus did, were everyone of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the BOOKS that would be WRITTEN...
So Eric , the same insipred apostles that witnessed these things, didnt tell nobody. They just told them what was in a couple of letters.
what it means is that there were many oral traditions given and handed down, and the only way to know them would be to get them from the ones who were told. And these ones were the disciples of the apostles and the apostles themselves. In fact the whole New Testament was given orally. I dont recall Jesus ever writing anything Himself.
Mike,
Please be careful not to read your own doctrine into scripture, but allow the word of God to speak for itself....
Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may[a] believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 20:30-31
please keep in mind that the Bible is not just the stories that the apostles tried to remember about Jesus, but the Holy Spirit is the author, and is responsible for every word that did and did not get into scripture....
For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 peter 1:21
There are many Roman Catholic doctrines that are completely contrary to the inspired scripture...
Mary's Davinity
"By asking Mary to pray for us, we acknowledge ourselves to be poor sinners and we address ourselves to the 'Mother of Mercy,' the All-Holy One. We give ourselves over to her now, in the Today of our lives," (Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 2677).
Purgatory
"All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation, but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven."
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 1030)
Praying to the so called "Saints"
"And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Rev. 19:10).
And just to address something else you said about how The Bible came from the Catholic church. Be careful that you do not elevate tradition above scripture. The Catholic church, meaning universal church, is not the same as the Roman Catholic church.
"Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to exceed what is written, in order that no one of you might become arrogant in behalf of one against the other" (1 Cor. 4:6).
if you want to discuss the catholic teachings please start a thread on the specifics because honestly I cant follow you because your jumping all over this board..Thanks I would more then happy to lead you to truth on your misunderstanding of the scriptures..
we just need to look at Jesus and what He did when He walked this earth.
Who did He eat with? Who did He fellowship with?
Most of those verses your leading towards about your stance about what you were talking about earlier were for the week children, the ones who would fall into temptation. If you are grounded in your faith, you should be able to fellowship with anyone, how else can you meet them were they are at?
You still havent replyed to my post, prior to this one...
I personally do believe that John was referring to ALL Scriptures together.
--
The bible says we are NOT to fellowship with the wicked.
Ephesians 5:7-11
"7 Be NOT ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have NO fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather REPROVE them."
But howcome we see the pope kissing a bible-opposing book? And receiving a "blessing" from a non-christian guru in Bombay in the midst of all the Hindu/Shiva believers? To me Mike, that shows that the human leader of the Roman Catholic Church, the pope, does not take seriously these verses in the book of Ephesians.
All that says is that we are not to do what they are doing. (Partakers)
Arent you glad Jesus ate with the sinners and tax collecters?
As far as the Pope, I dont see what He has done that is so wrong. The quaran(sp?)
Is pretty much the old testament, and the God they worship is the same God we do. They dont go through Jesus and that is for God to judge there heart, but the fact is that they are worshipping the same God, just a different way. He is trying to meet them were they are at, and is attempting to try to unify the people. Its not like He said to them that he was changing his beleifs, he was just accepting them were they are at..
To me it shows the Pope just understands the context of the letter to the Ephesians...Jesus didnt come to condemn the world and we should either...
Muslims do NOT believe in the Eternal Father who claims to have a Son Jesus Christ. They believe in the home-made or "satan-made" personage that commands to not regard Jesus as a deity. Anyone who does not know the Son, does consequently not know the Father either.
(1 John 5:12)
"He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
The Qur'an is not just "pretty much the OT", but just plain anti-Christ. Since the deity of Jesus is DENIED. And the pope kissing the anti-Christ's Qur'an should be more than enough evidence that there's something seriously wrong with Roman Catholic Church.
do you know the history of the muslims..abraham had two sons christians followed one and the muslims followed the other. They both followed the same God. Its not about if they are right or not, its about that they follow the same God. I dont agree with them, but I dont condemn them either. Who here has been given the authority to judge anothers heart?
Gods Mercy covers much more then we will ever know. If a man grows up in the muslim faith and does deeds of mercy and lives a good life and really never has the chance to study christianity, will he not be given mercy?
"The Merciful shall obtain Mercy"
