The roman catholic church wanted to get more people in there congregations. There were sunworshipers in those days as there are today. The Roman Catholic church changed the day of worship from Saturday, to Sunday. This is fact. If you worship on Sunday, you are worshiping the wrong day. The calenders changed and the real day should begin on Sunday. However, the powers that be, are decieving people.

The council of trent changed the day which was constructed of Bishops from the roman catholic church. The same ones who put the same Bible together you claim to live by. So I guess my question is if they were good enough to put the New Testament together why are they not good enough to change the day of worship(sabbath) which was created for man not God by the way. The true worshiper worships everyday, not just one day a week.

Peace be with you...

Amen Mike. It is not important WHAT day we worship God.. it does not say in the Bible to worship Him this day or that day. MAN chose which day it was to be set aside.. all God said was out of seven days, on one day we are to stop from everything we are doing and worship Him. It could be a Wednesday, Sunday, Saturday, Thursday, Tuesday.. ANY day. As Mike said.. we are suppose to worship Him every single day..be head over heels in love with Him every single day...make Him our number one purpose every single day.
And to attack one religion is uncalled for, for does it not also say not to judge a man by what he eats or what holidays he keeps?

Finally Mike! Ive been longing for you to bring up the Council of Trent! Why wont you acknowledge all the horrible anethemas they made toward me and every other protestant. Im telling you the Roman Catholic Church is trying to protect its false claims of papal infallibility by ignoring its past pronouncements. My friend, you need to leave Rome behind if you want to please Jesus our Maker.
P.S.The council of Trent is probably denied more by modern catholics than it is hated by those of us damned by it.

Mr. Owens..

you said.."Why wont you acknowledge all the horrible anethemas they made toward me and every other protestant."

I wasnt aware there were protestant's in the 300's. I was under the impression that the protestant's came about in the 1500's....

Unless, of course you refering to the similarity's between the modern protestant's and the early agnostic's?

Peace, on your quest for truth....

Paul and the early church met on Sunday (the 1st day of the week) to celebrate the Lord's Supper, or communion.

Acts 20:7 We met on Sunday to worship and celebrate the Master's Supper. Paul addressed the congregation. Our plan was to leave first thing in the morning, but Paul talked on, way past midnight.

Also we are told that people who made a big deal out or Sabbaths, or Holy Days, etc... were missing the point. Those were only a shadow of that which was to come, and all were fufilled in Christ.

Colossians 2
16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

Beware the trapping of legalism. Salvation is in Christ, not Saturday vs. Sunday

Grace and Peace

Hi Jeff

The eight places where{First day of the week} appears in your bible was added by the translators, there’s no such thing in the {Greek of the NT} or {in any of the Greek manuscripts}, its {Mia Sabaton} which renders {First of Sabbaths} counting down to Pentecost, Christ resurrected on the first Sabbath of 7 Sabbaths counting down to Pentecost, 7 times 7=49 and the next day was the 50th day Pentecost Sunday, if you like ill send you a few study’s on it ok. well here they are anyway i pray your blessed by them.

i agree with Disciple Mike and Jeff h worship is everyday it's not just sunday or saturday or what ever day the Sabbath falls. I don't think God's gonna punish me for worshipping him corporately on sunday instead of saturday. he knows my heart he knows i delight in him. thats what he cares about.

There is a day of rest and reflection. Saturday is the day. It isn't Sunday. I agree that we worship everyday, but that is an entirely different matter.

Kristine, please support your position with scripture. I don't believe there is another New Testament reference stronger the the one I've quoted, but I could be mistaken.

I think we all have our beliefs. God made the world in six days and rested on the sabbath. We are to rest on the sabbath as well. Also glorify him. There is controversy over when, how, who and whatever beliefs people have. I just brought up the subject because this subject is controversal and should be evaluated. Do we go by man's law? Do we go by the entire bible, which shouldn't be excluded from the new test. There are new laws but also there are the old laws that also fit with Christian living. Not trying to ruffle feathers, just getting at the truth, if there is such a thing.

The truth is that it likely doesn't matter. The scripture from Colossians seems to say that they are just pictures pointing to Jesus and fufilled in Him anyway. There are alot of these little matters that create division, when we are to about God's business of living the Gospel which is the power of God unto salvation!

Oh Christine, I know what you mean! I have suffered with this for years. Why are we not celebrating the Sabbath on Saturday when the bible clearly says to? Jesus celebrated a Saturday Sabbath before his cruxificion. So why aren't we?

I have frustatingly sat through so many debates on both sides. True, Jesus would only meet with his apostles the first day of the week after his resurrection. He had 5 weeks here before his asscension to celebrate Saturday sabbath, but didn't. Ok, so that kinda helps the Sunday Sabbath....but, wait.

Jesus claims to be "The Lord of the Sabbath". Sabbath is a day of rest and we are to keep it holy. That is the law. Yet, the law is only a shadow of things to come. Jesus came, He is the Lord of the Sabbath, I can now take my rest in Him, who is Holy. Our sabbath is daily and holy when we rest in the " Lord of the Sabbath." I only realized this 2 months ago through finally studying about this question that kept bugging me.

The Saturday Sabbath was a covenant made with the Jews to set them apart. We now have a new covenant with Christ.

Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Mar 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Luk 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Originally, Sunday was not called the sabbath, it was called the "Day Of The Lord", and was as different as ...Saturday and Sunday. Early America realized this, and that is why we have traditionally a Monday-Friday, ending at sunset work week for those who would celebrate both days.

My husband and myself celebrate both. We rest Friday evening-Saturday evening, and we fellowship on Sunday. We also can spiritually rest in the "Lord of the Sabbath" daily.

God bless you Kristine!
